Spectator Facility Update - Council Vote Coming Monday
September 15, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The next pivotal meeting in the push for a new spectator facility for St. Catharines is coming up on Monday, September 19th, as city council votes on hiring an arena management company.
The selected company would work for the city as a consultant on the spectator facility and also help the city to take the next step towards making the facility a reality. In addition, if the arena is built the company would also manage the new facility.
The vote will take place at the council meeting on Monday, with things getting underway at 6:30 pm in the council chambers on the third floor of St. Catharines city hall.
This is once again another key step as we enter the homestretch of the push for a new spectator facility and we need to ensure the supporters make their voices heard once again.
We encourage everyone to once again e-mail the city councilors leading up to the meeting and let them know you support the hiring of an arena management company. At the last council meeting regarding the spectator facility back in the spring, Mayor McMullan made mention of how many e-mails he received in support of the facility and mentioned how much of an impact that made, so lets make sure he sees the same type of response leading up to Monday's meeting.
Additionally, we once again encourage everyone to come out and join us in person at the council meeting. Last time the chambers and the overflow room were both packed with supporters and we need to make sure that happens once again. By packing the meeting with supporters, it helps to show council the level of support there is for this project and encourages them to vote in favour of continuing on with the process of making this facility a reality.
For those of you who can make it out to Monday's meeting, we encourage you to arrive early as the council chambers filled up quickly back in the spring. With the final vote coming up quickly, we need to ensure that the chambers are packed with supporters and by getting there early it will help to make sure that is a reality.
It has been a long process to get to this point, but the next couple of months are going to be key if we are to make this spectator facility a reality. We cannot let the people opposing a new spectator facility be louder than the supporters, so we must ensure that we make our voices hear loud and clear.
Monday is the next step in this process and now is as key a time as ever to ensure that we continue to show city council our support.
So please take a moment of your time to voice your support to the city councilors (e-mail addresses listed below) and we hope to see everyone at the meeting Monday night!
