Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel (15-4-4-0; 34 pts.) will take the ice on Saturday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena in one-of-a-kind specialty jerseys for Winterfest presented by Illinois Aviation Academy. The jerseys will be auctioned off online to benefit the Cyclones Amateur Hockey Association. After the game action, fans are encouraged to participate in a post-game skate.
The online jersey auction is scheduled to run from Thursday, Dec. 9 through Thursday, Dec. 16 with winning bidders receiving the game-worn jerseys autographed by the individual player.
Starting at 9:00 am CT on Dec. 9, fans will be able to bid on the jerseys at https://web.dashapp.io/auctions/chicagosteel. Bidding will close at 6:00 pm CT on Thursday, Dec. 16.
Illinois Aviation Academy teamed up with the Steel in 2019 to raise over $6,400 for the Cyclones after 'ugly sweater' themed jerseys were auctioned off following a 3-1 Steel victory over the Tri-City Storm. Last season's scheduled event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Uniquely designed, the one-of-a-kind jerseys are primarily red with a STEEL wordmark across the chest, intertwined with a string of festive lights, duplicated on each arm below the player numbers. The wrist cuffs and waist have a white border that dissolves into a snowflake pattern as it rises upwards to the strings of lights. Against a white section on top of the shoulder pads, the Cyclones Amateur Hockey Association crest stands out on both shoulders. To the right of the USHL crest on the chest of the jersey is the logo for Illinois Aviation Academy, the sponsor of the specialty jersey auction.
The Cyclones Amateur Hockey Association is a travel hockey program for youth athletes ages 4-18 to grow their hockey skills and foster a life-long enjoyment of the game. The Cyclones practice and play their home games at the home rink of the Chicago Steel, Fox Valley Ice Arena.
After the Steel face off against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at ImOn Ice Arena on Friday, Dec. 10, Chicago returns to Fox Valley Ice Arena to take on the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday, Dec. 11 for a 7:05 pm CT puck drop wearing the specialty sweaters.
The Steel split a pair of games in the club's latest USHL action, falling 7-3 on Dec. 3 on home ice against the Dubuque Fighting Saints before striking back with a 6-3 victory against the Fighting Saints at Dubuque Community Ice Center on Dec. 4.
Forward Joe Miller extended his career-long point streak to 10 games with a goal and two helpers spread over the two-game weekend. Selected in the sixth round (#180 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Miller has ascended to fourth in the league in total points with 29 (9G, 20A) through 23 games played this season.
Friday's road contest against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (9-10-0-0; 18 pts.) is the second of seven scheduled meetings between the Eastern Conference foes during the 2021-2022 season. The Steel earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory on home ice on Nov. 19, the first game between Chicago and Cedar Rapids since Jan. 26, 2020.
RoughRiders forward and University of Connecticut commit Nate Hanley is the only active Cedar Rapids player with previous experience playing for the RoughRiders against the Steel. Hanley totaled three points (1G, 2A) in four appearances versus Chicago in the 2019-2020 slate in addition to appearing in one game between the two teams in 2018-2019.
Following a 2-7-1-2 (7 pts.) start through the first 12 games of the season, the Muskegon Lumberjacks have earned wins in eight of their last nine games played, rising to fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 10-8-1-2 (23 pts.) mark. This recent run of success began on Nov. 13 when Muskegon topped the Steel 5-4 in overtime, one of two victories for the Lumberjacks in four tries against Chicago.
Leading the offensive charge for Muskegon is Chicago, Ill., native Quinn Hutson, a forward committed to Boston University. The 5-foot-11, 171-pound skater paces the Lumberjacks with 25 points (11G, 14A) including five multi-point performances over his last eight games played. Hutson tallied a pair of goals in a 6-5 overtime win against the Steel on Oct. 15 but has been held off the scoresheet in the three other matchups with Chicago this year.
The Steel and RoughRiders match up for a home-and-home series on Friday, Dec. 17 in Iowa and Saturday, Dec. 18 at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The Saturday night showdown on home ice is Scooby-Doo Night and a Steel Family Pack Game, a special ticket deal that includes 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas/waters, 4 chips and 4 chuck-a-pucks for just $50.
Tickets for Steel games start at just $10 and are available in person at the Steel Box Office at Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL and online at ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com. The Steel now offer single-game ticket discounts for kids 12 and under and military.
