
Sparks sign seven players to training camp contracts

EL SEGUNDO, CA-The Los Angeles Sparks have added WNBA veterans Tamara Moore, Gwen Jackson, Sheila Lambert, Edniesha Curry, Kaayla Chones, Nyree Roberts and Brandy Reed to training camp rosters, it was announced today. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed.
Tamara Moore, a five-year WNBA veteran, averaged 6.1 points as a starting guard in her 2006 season with the Sparks. Drafted by the Miami Sol in 2002, Moore has also played for Minnesota Lynx, Detroit Shock and the Phoenix Mercury.
Forward Gwen Jackson, drafted sixth overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2003 WNBA Draft averaged, five points and 3.6 rebounds in her three year career. She did not play for a WNBA team in 2006.
Sheila Lambert, a guard out of Baylor, was drafted seventh overall in 2002 by the Charlotte Sting. During her four seasons in the WNBA (2002-2005), Lambert started in 31 games averaging 4.2 points.
Edniesha Curry, selected by the Charlotte Sting in the third round of the 2002 WNBA Draft played for the Sparks in 2005 where she averaged 1.8 points. The 5-4 guard out of Oregon ('02) did not play during the 2006 season.
Kaayla Chones, a 6-3 center, has spent the last three seasons with the Washington Mystics and the Seattle Storm. In 28 career games, she has averaged 1.5 points.
Nyree Roberts, an Old Dominion ('98) center, played in the WNBA for two seasons with the Indiana Fever and the Washington Mystics.
Finishing off the list of training camp additions, Brandy Reed, a 6-1 forward (Southern Mississippi) spent five seasons in the WNBA and played in the 2000 WNBA All-Star Game.
Entering their 11th season, the Sparks are operating under new ownership led by investors Katherine Goodman and Carla Christofferson, the Sparks will open the 2007 season in Chicago when they play the Sky on May 22.
