Los Angeles Sparks News Release
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks have signed veteran forward Jennifer Lacy, executive vice president and general manager Penny Toler announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
A nine-year veteran, Lacy joins Los Angeles from Tulsa where she played the past five WNBA seasons. In 150 contests with the Shock, the 6-3 forward compiled career averages of 5.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 16.2 minutes per game. In 2012, she averaged career-highs of 8.5 points and 22.0 minutes per game.
"I highly admire how Jennifer Lacy plays the game and the kind of teammate she has proven to be," said Sparks head coach Brian Agler. "She has great experience playing both the three and four positions and will give us great depth at both spots as well as veteran leadership on the floor and in the locker room."
Prior to Tulsa, she spent two seasons with the Atlanta Dream, including the team's turnaround season in 2009 where she helped the team to a 14-win improvement and its first Eastern Conference Semi-Finals appearance. In 2008 as a team captain, she started a career-high 22 games in its inaugural season after being selected from the Phoenix Mercury in the expansion draft.
Lacy played two seasons in Phoenix and in her second season, she helped the team capture its first WNBA Championship (2007). As a rookie in 2006, she led all qualified first-year players with a .477 field goal percentage. Over 268 career games (60 starts), she has averaged 5.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15.0 minutes per contest.
A local California product, Lacy played collegiately at Pepperdine University and became the first West Coast Conference player to make a WNBA roster when she joined the Mercury in 2006. She attended Agoura High School and is part of the Athletics Hall of Fame at both Agoura High and Pepperdine.
The Los Angeles Sparks tip-off its 2015 WNBA home schedule on Sunday, June 14 vs. the Seattle Storm at 2:00pm at STAPLES Center. Sparks season and group ticket plans are available now by calling 844-GO-SPARKS or visiting LASparks.com.
