
Sparks Re-Sign Free Agent Holdsclaw

EL SEGUNDO, CA- Sparks forward Chamique Holdsclaw has been re-signed by the Sparks, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Holdsclaw, a 6-2 forward out of Tennessee, began her career with the Sparks in 2005 after six successful seasons with the Washington Mystics. Since her move to Los Angeles, the 1999 first-overall WNBA draft pick and Rookie of the Year, has averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. In her WNBA career, Holdsclaw ranks fifth in total points (3,896), sixth in points per game (17.7), fourth in total rebounds (1,834) and in rebounds per game (8.3).
Ayana Walker will join Holdsclaw and the Sparks after being selected 12th in the Charlotte Sting dispersal draft in early 2007. Selected 20th by Detroit in the 2002 WNBA draft, Walker averages 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
Entering their 11th season, the Sparks will operate under new ownership led by investors Katherine Goodman and Carla Christofferson. The Sparks will open the 2007 season in Chicago when they take on the Sky on May 22.
