Jersey Express News Release

Newark, NJ. The ABA Newark Express named Rasheed Sparks as the first to sign for the upcoming season. Home grown in Newark, Sparks attended Central High School from '91-'95, then later attended Morgan State University '95-'99, where he averaged 13.25ppg, 5rpg and 2 steals per game. His professional career has taken him both nationally and internationally.

Sparks is a local known talent with tremendous athletic ability. The 27 year old, 6'6" guard is both a leader on the court as well as off the court. Sparks currently resides in Newark with his wife and family and is employed as a substitute teacher.

The Tryout on September 10th was hard but after being approached by owners Marsha Blount and Jacqui Halyard directly, and given the opportunity to say home and become a local star, the decision to join the team was an easy one for Sparks.

A final Open Tryout is scheduled for October 22nd in Newark where the Newark Express will try to put together the missing pieces to the puzzle in time for Training Camp that is scheduled for October 24th. The team will kick off its season this November 12th away against the Rochester Razorsharks and will host its Home Opener Friday November 18th against the Maryland Nighthawks.
