NBA Miami Heat catch ABA fever with throwbacks
October 4, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Sunrise, FL. While Tim Hardaway's expansion ABA Florida Pit Bulls raise the curtain on a new era of ABA basketball when they open their season on October 30th, the NBA Miami Heat will shine some light on history when they don the vintage 1971-1972 threads of the ABA's Miami Floridians for seven regular season games.
"The Heat's decision to wear throwback ABA jerseys as a marketing venture just shows that the league is a hot product," said Pit Bulls majority owner Demetrius Ford. "The ABA's classic jerseys represent an "old school" brand of basketball that will be thrilling for our fans to experience."
The Floridians may have only lasted for four years, but the ABA is alive and well and galvanized by the arrival of the Pit Bulls - home opener Nov 5 at 7pm - and the BankAtlantic Center as one of the league's marquee venues.
Capturing the essence of the ABA's "old school" style of hoops, the Heat will wear the Floridians' road jerseys - black with a magenta stripe - for six home games and one road contest.
The Pit Bulls, meanwhile, will open their home slate when Hardawy goes head-to-head with former NBA slam dunk champion Cedric Ceballos and the Orange County Buzz. Season tickets for the Pit Bulls are currently on sale by calling 1 888 4 TIM TIX. For more information, visit www.floridapitbulls.com or email dford@floridapitbulls.com or visit www.abalive.com. --
