Spallina Named To MLL All-Star Team

Philadelphia, PA (June 14, 2006) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that defenseman Brian Spallina has been named to the 2006 MLL All-Star team. The 5th Major League Lacrosse All-Star game will take place on July 6, 2006 at Nickerson Field in Boston, MA. The MLL All-Stars will battle Team USA, in preparation for the ILF World Lacrosse Championship July 22.

This will be the first appearance for Spallina on the All-Star in his four years in the league. Spallina spent his first two seasons with the Long Island Lizards, playing in 18 games, collected 27 ground balls, record eight penalties and winning seven face offs out of 19. After taking the 2003 season off, Spallina joined the Barrage in 2004, where he helped the team win their first ever MLL Championship. For the Barrage he recorded 33 ground balls and had 29 penalties. So far in 2006, he has played in three out of four games for the Barrage, missing one due to injury and has collected two ground balls.

"Brian is a vital part of the Barrage defense and is one of the major reasons we are 4-0 this season," said head coach Tony Resch. "He will make a great addition to the All-Star team.

Philadelphia will make their next stop in Uniondale, New York to battle the Long Island Lizards at Mitchel Field. The Barrage return home to Villanova on June 29 against the Boston Cannons.
