Dougherty Wins MLL Weekly Honors

Philadelphia, PA (May 1, 2006) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that goaltender Brian Dougherty won the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday night's game against the Chicago Machine. Dougherty recorded 31 saves in the 13 to 12 overtime win against the Machine. The Barrage trailed the Machine nine to three at the end of the first half to make a thrilling comeback and tie the game in the fourth quarter 12 to 12 and eventually on to win in overtime.
"Dougherty had an amazing second half and really kept the team in the game," said Barrage head coach Tony Resch. "This was a big win for the Barrage and to have Dougherty play as strong as he did was great."
Dougherty leads the MLL is save percentage at 69.3 and goals against average with 9.46. His career total is a 58.3 save percentage and a 13.2 goals against average. Dougherty is second in the MLL for the most regular season wins and tied for second with Sal LoCascio for the most post season wins.
Philadelphia will make their next stop in Uniondale, New York to battle the Long Island Lizards at Mitchel Field. The Barrage return home to Villanova on June 29 against the Boston Cannons.
