Sox Swept in Chico

Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Silver Sox (3-6)dropped both games in a double header against the Chico Outlaws (4-7)last night in Chico, allowing for the Outlaws to sweep the series.
Game one of the double header was a magnificent pitching duel between Silver Sox starter Steve Russell (4-7) and the Outlaw's Trevor Caughey. Though Russell threw a great game the offense couldn't do anything against Caughey. Russell allowed only two runs off four hits, striking out three in his complete game against the Outlaws.
CF Gary Harris and DH Ryan Brown were the only Silver Sox batters who managed to get a hit off Caughey. The offense was shutout in the 2-0 loss.
The Chico bats came to life in the second game as they took full advantage of the Silver Sox pitching staff, who dropped the game in a 16-5 loss.
Starting pitcher Billy Simon (1-1) couldn't get into a groove as he gave up six runs off four hits and walked four in his 1.2 innings of work. In an attempt to allievate the damage, the Silver Sox put in relief pitcher Errol Simonitsch, but unfortunatly for him the Outlaw bats were already hot. Simonitsch allowed six runs off five hits, walking three, and striking out in 2.1 innings. Finishing out the game was Ryan Brown who gave up four runs off five hits, walking one.
The Silver Sox offense couldn't get things going either as they brought in five runs, three earned, off seven hits, leaving eight runners on base. 1B/P Ryan Brown knocked in a two-run homerun for the Sox as he went one for two with 2 RBIs, and a run.
The Silver Sox return home tonight to take on the Outlaws in a five game series that includes a doubleheader tomorrow Tuesday, July 29.
