
Mayorga, Flyers slam Calgary to earn league best 34th win

Despite the absence of two of their biggest sluggers, the Orange County Flyers (6-6) returned to their championship form from the first half pounding the Calgary Vipers (8-5) 12-4 in the first game of a double header Monday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.
Gabe Mayorga opened up the scoring with a grand slam and the Flyers poured it on. Mayorga's second inning grand slam opened up the scoring before Jermy Acey added a two run homer in the inning as the Flyers posted a six spot in the second.
By the end of the third inning the Flyers were up 11-0 thanks to two more homers and a solid start from Jesse Smith.
Smith, now 3-1, cruised to a complete game victory by hurling 108 pitches and holding the 1st half north division champion Vipers to just four runs.
Every Flyer starter earned at least one hit in the victoy and eight Flyers scored a run in the their 34th win of the season.
The Vipers' starter Dane Renkert was tagged with the loss (0-1) after being pummelled for 10 runs.
The two teams took a 30 minute break before meeting in the nightcap.
