Everett AquaSox News Release
Everett starter Shawn Nottingham struck out eight consecutive batters and the Everett AquaSox hammered home 11 runs in a lopsided 11-1 route over the Spokane Indians Sunday evening. Everett is now 7-3 on the season and leads the West Division of the Northwest League.
Nottingham single-handedly silenced Spokane's eight of the first nine batters of the game, striking out all of them.. The first batter of the game was hit by a pitch, and the last out in the third inning came on a caught foul fly. The Northwest League record for most consecutive strikeouts in a game is nine, set by Boise's John Bilello in 1989. Nottingham plowed through six innings of work, striking out and allowing just one run on hits.
The AquaSox offense surged in the second and fifth innings when they scored four runs each time. The runs scored in the second were the result of a lead off double by Yung Chi Chen and a round of four singles that Everett dropped between Spokane's fielders.
Everett displayed its power in the fifth inning with home runs by new comer Marshall Hubbard and catcher Brian Schweiger. Schweiger went 3 for 3 with three RBI in the game. It was Hubbard's first professional home run. Hubbard, is out of the University of North Carolina, and is Seattle's fourth-round pick in the 2004 draft.
The AquaSox' Brent Johnson went 4 for 5 in the game with three RBI.Spokane's only run was scored in the fourth inning on a double-play ground ball hit by Kevin Mahar.
The AquaSox and Spokane Indians play game three of the five-game series on Monday at 7 p.m. It's a Comcast $1 Monday: hot dogs, chips, ice cream sandwiches and selected sodas are on sale for just $1.
