PASCO, WA â The Vancouver Canadians (A's) pounded out 12 hits including seven off of Dust Devil starter RHP Steven Register (0-1) in four innings. CF Javier Herrera led the Canadians going 3 for 5 with a single, double, triple and four RBI. Vancouver also got a strong pitching performance from starter RHP Mike McGirr (1-0) who pitched five solid innings and only gave up one run and two hits while striking out eight.
LF Nicolas Blasi has a good night for the Canadians going 2 for 3 as did SS Gregorio Petit who was 2 for 5 and 1B Thomas Everidge who was 2 for 4 .
The Canadians got to Register in the third after he struck out the fi rst two batters of the inning. Blasi singled up the middle and advanced to third base on a single by 2B Ryan Ruiz.
Everidge then smoked a Register slider to left to score Blasi. Herrera followed with a soft line drive that bounced at the feet of Devil's RF Florentino Nunez and got by him for a two run double. Register then struck out RF Chalon Tietje to end the inning.
Tri-City scored a run in the bottom of the fourth after DH Jose Vasquez doubled and was hit in by LF Matt Miller.
Vancouver put up another three spot in the fi fth when Herrera smacked a two run triple into the left fi eld gap which scored Blasi and Everidge who both were walked by Dust Devil reliever J.P. Gagne.
LHP Ryan Ford pitched four solid innings of relief and picked up his first save of the season.
The Dust Devils picked up a run in the bottom of the ninth on another RBI single by Miller but the attempted rally was squelched as Ford struck out SS Jose Valdez to end the game. Game two of the series is Sunday at 6:05 with LHP Jake Postlewait starting on the mound for Tri-City vs. RHP Clay Tichota for the Canadians.
