Sox Lose Third Straight Series at Home
July 6, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash - After winning four straight to start off the month of July, the Everett AquaSox (7-13) dropped their second consecutive game to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (4-16) by a score of 10-6 in a see-saw game that dropped the Frogs to 2-7 at home this season.
Sox left-hander Bennett Whitmore (1-2, 6.89 ERA) was attributed the loss after giving up six runs in a start for the second time this season. Whitmore has allowed eleven earned runs at home and only one earned run on the road so far in 2011.
The Frogs broke up the scoreless game in the bottom of the second with three straight two-out RBI hits on a double by first baseman Ethan Paquette, a triple by center-fielder Jarrett Burgess and a single by Danny Lopez to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Everett is now 3-6 when they score first this season.
The Volcanoes answered right back in the top of the third inning when they scored four runs, three with two outs on an RBI single by right-fielder Brett Krill and a two-RBI double by designated hitter Mike Murray. Krill and Murray combined to go 5-10 with 4 RBIs in the game.
The two teams traded the lead back and forth when catcher Larry Gonzalez hit a two RBI double in the bottom of the third and Volcanoes center-fielder Jesus Galindo hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to give Salem-Keizer a 6-5 lead and end Whitmore's day. Ten of the first eleven runs in the game by the two teams were scored with two outs.
With the lead 7-6 in the top of the eighth, the Volcanoes put the game out of reach when third baseman Garrett Buechele hit a three-run homer that just barely cleared the right field wall, his first hit since joining Salem-Keizer July 4.
The AquaSox start a five-game series July 7 with the Boise Hawks on the road, with the Frogs so far this season amassing a 5-6 record away from Everett Memorial. Everett will send right-hander Stephen Landazuri (3-0, 4.05), who is looking to become the first starter to four wins in the Northwest League, against Hawks' right-hander Benjamin Wells (1-1, 5.71 ERA) at 7:15 p.m.
