Extra Innings Again, Hawks Win Again

July 6, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Yakima Bears News Release

The Yakima Bears were defeated Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium in Boise, Idaho 5-4 in extra innings by the Boise Hawks. It was the second straight night Boise earned a 5-4 walk-off win in 10 innings.

In his first professional start, Alex Capaul left with his team trailing 4-0 after four a third innings. After he left, John Pedrotty allowed no runs in three and two thirds innings.

While Pedrotty was on the mound, the Bears scored a run in the seventh inning when Danny Pulfer singled to score Jae Yun Kim, who had reached on a double. The Bears would rally for three more runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game. Kim singled, Pulfer walked and then Westley Moss hit a single to load the bases. All the runners advanced on a wild pitch, and then Zach Jones hit a double to score the other two runs that tied the game at 4-4.

Miles Reagan pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth after an errant throw put a runner at third with only one out. Reagan retired the first two batters in the tenth before Wes Darvill reached on an error. Darvill advanced to second on an errant pick-off throw and then to third on a wild pitch. A single to the right side of the infield by Kenny Socorro scored Darvill for the game winner.

The Bears made some nice defensive plays, turning two double plays and throwing out two would-be base stealers, but the team also committed four errors.

Both teams finished with 13 hits, but a double was the only extra-base hit for the Bears in the game. Kerry Jenkins went 4-for-5, Jimmy Comerota finished 3-for-4, and both Zach Jones and Jae Yun Kim ended the night with two hits.

The series between the Bears and Hawks concludes Wednesday at Memorial Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 6:15 pacific time. Right-handed pitchers Randy Hamrick of the Bears and Luis Liria of the Hawks are expected to start.
