Indians Capitalize on Dust Devils Errors in 10-7 Win
July 6, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA -In a topsy-turvy game that featured six errors and six wild pitches, the Indians pulled ahead with a three-run sixth inning, and sealed their victory with five more runs in the seventh on their way to a 10-7 win over the Dust Devils.
Spokane got a strong start from pitcher Richard Alvarez, who allowed just one run and one hit in five innings of work, but couldn't muster any offense against Tri-City starter Tyler Gagnon.
Things changed quickly once the Indians got to the Dust Devils bullpen however, as Tri-City relievers Craig Bennigson and Rhett Ballard combined to cough up seven runs and eight hits in just 1.1 innings pitched. The Dust Devils four errors led to three unearned runs for their pitching staff.
Spokane's offensive barrage was led by last night's hero Jorge Alfaro, who finished the game 3-5 with three RBI's. Guillermo Pimentel added three hits to raise his average to .391, and Brett Nicholas, Trever Adams, Nick Vickerson, and Braxton Lane all had base knocks in the win.
Juan Grullon (5-0) picked up his Northwest League leading fifth win with 2.1 innings of relief.
