South Carolina's Grubauer Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - South Carolina Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.

The 20-year-old went 7-1-0 with one shutout, a 1.66 goals-against average and a save percentage of .935 in nine appearances during the month, helping the Stingrays to an 11-2-0 mark in January.

Grubauer began the month with six consecutive wins, making at least 27 saves in four of the six games. He allowed two goals or less in six of his eight starts in January, and in 18 of his 28 appearances over this season.

A native of Rosenheim, Germany, Grubauer is tied for second in the league with 17 wins, is third with a 2.14 goals-against average and fifth with a .922 save percentage. He was named ECHL Goaltender of the Month in November after going 6-1-1 with one shutout, a 1.73 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage in eight appearances during the month.

A fourth-round selection (112th overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Grubauer spent the three previous seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, compiling a record of 52-36-10 in 105 games with Belleville, Windsor, and Kingston.

Runners Up: Dustin Gazley, Elmira (11 gp, 6g, 11a, 17 pts.) and Chris Doyle, Stockton (15 gp, 9g, 5a, 14 pts.).
