South Bay Lakers News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - In a 48-minute battle for a spot in the Western Conference Finals, the South Bay Lakers (1-1), the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers, narrowly fell to the Agua Caliente Clippers (1-0), 112-110, on Thursday night at the Toyota Arena.

With the stakes high in a single-elimination playoff game, each team came out locked in on both sides of the ball. Following his 27-point, 10-assist double-double Tuesday night, Mac McClung controlled the offense again with 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the first half. South Bay was trailing by as many as seven in the second in quarter but fought their way back to take a two-point lead going into the break, 57-55.

The intensity picked up in the second half as every rebound was a fight and every point had to be earned. Agua Caliente pulled ahead with a six-point lead heading into the final quarter, but South Bay never quit. The Lakers made a late run to grab a four-point lead with four minutes left in regulation, but they could not hold on. The Clippers secured the victory, 112-110, in their home arena, and South Bay's memorable season came to a close.

Lakers two-way guard Mason Jones led South Bay with a game-high 33 points, while Paris Bass was a force off the bench with 29 points and 12 rebounds. McClung finished with his second straight double-double, posting 18 points and 10 assists.

Tonight's result ends an extremely productive 2021-22 campaign for first-year head coach Miles Simon and the South Bay Lakers. After finishing the Showcase Cup with a strong 10-4 record, South Bay went 21-11 in the regular season, earning them a three-seed in the Western Conference and ultimately advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals.
