Nashville Sounds News Release
MEMPHIS - The Nashville Sounds beat the Memphis Redbirds 7-6 on Monday night at AutoZone Park in Memphis. Matt Ginter picked up his first save of the year after standing the tying run 90 feet away to end the game.
The Sounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off Redbirds starter Clayton Mortensen. Outfielder Jason Bourgeois led off the game with a base hit and stole second base. Hernan Iribarren then brought Bourgeois home from second on softly hit ball to center field for a 1-0 Nashville lead.
Later in the inning, Joe Koshansky added another RBI-base hit to score Iribarren and extended the Sounds' lead to 2-0. Adam Heether then hit his 11th home run of the season to right field, a two-run shot for a 4-0 Sounds' advantage.
The Redbirds tied the game at four on two long balls of their own off Sounds starter Chase Wright. Memphis' Tyler Greene led off with his bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to left field with Brian Barden hammering a three-run shot that tied the game.
The game stayed knotted at 4 until Wright scored on an Alcides Escobar single to centerfield in the top of the fourth inning that gave Nashville a 5-4 lead.
After Escobar and Iribarren reached base again to begin the top of the seventh inning, the Sounds added two more runs on sacrifice flies by Angel Salome and Koshansky for a 7-4 lead.
Memphis came within two runs at 7-5 in the eighth inning when Troy Glaus scored on a wild pitch from reliever Nick Green. The Redbirds plated another run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI-single by Glaus, but couldn't do further damage and ended the game.
Wright (6-5) allowed four runs in the first inning, but kept the Redbirds scoreless over the next five frames to earn the win, striking out two in the process.
Mortensen (7-6) took the loss, surrendering six runs on 11 hits over six innings.
The Sounds and Redbirds continue with the second game of a four-game series at 7:05 pm CT on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park. Sounds right-hander Tim Dillard (9-4, 3.93) takes the hill against right-hander Blake Hawksworth for Memphis.
