New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Norris Hopper's bases-loaded ground out broke a ninth inning tie, lifting the Nashville Sounds past the New Orleans Zephyrs 4-3 on Friday night.

The Sounds loaded the bases against James Houser after Brendan Katin drew a one-out walk, and Joe Koshansky doubled on a grounder down the first base line that hit umpire Eddie Newsome and trickled near the Zephyrs' bullpen, putting runners at second and third. After intentionally walking Ray Olmedo, the Z's brought the infield up and turned to Dan Meyer, who got Hopper to hit a grounder to second that Danny Richar was only able to knock down and record the out at first.

Brandon Kintzler worked a perfect ninth for Nashville to record his sixth save.

Sounds starter Sam Narron kept the Zephyrs in check for most of the night, carrying a shutout into the seventh inning. Brian Barden led off the inning with a single to right, extending his hitting streak to 19 games. Danny Richar followed with another single to right, as Barden hustled to third, beating the throw from Katin. Chris Aguila lifted a sacrifice fly to score Barden, bringing the Zephyrs within 3-1, and Mark Saccomanno then drove the first pitch he saw from Narron over the fence in right-center field to knot the score at 3-3.

Nashville had grabbed the lead in the third on a two-out, two-run double by Eric Farris, and extended the lead in the fourth on Koshansky's towering home run over the center field wall. All three runs came against New Orleans starter Nic Ungs, who worked seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out six.

Houser (0-2) was charged with the loss, while Mitch Stetter (3-2) pitched a flawless eighth to pick up the win for the Sounds.

The final series of the season continues Saturday, as the Zephyrs send right-hander Tom Mastny (4-5, 4.48) against Nashville righty Josh Butler (4-1, 5.99). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
