RiverCats Win Division with 12-8 Win

The Sacramento RiverCats won their fourth straight Pacific Southern Division title with a 12-8 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Friday evening at Security Service Field in front of 5,037 fans.

The two clubs battled back and forth the entire game but the RiverCats broke a 7-7 tie in the eighth with three runs off reliever Juan Rincon (4-4) who took the loss. John Halama (6-2) picked up the win in relief and Fernando Hernandez notched his third save of the season.

Eric Sogard led the way for the Sacramento offense as he finished 4-for-6 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI on the night. Leadoff hitter Corey Wimberly also had a big night for the R-Cats as he was on base four times and scored three runs while stealing two bases. For the team as a whole, every single Sacramento hitter had at least one hit, run scored and RBI.

For the Sox, Mike Paulk had a double and a homer while driving in four runs and Brad Eldred finished a single short of the cycle with three runs scored.

Game two of the four-game series is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. The Sox will send out LH Josh Muecke (6-8, 5.35) to face RH Travis Banwart (3-2, 4.97).
