Seattle Sounders FC News Release

(Seattle, Wa)- The Seattle Sounders (8-7-8) return home to face the Puerto Rico Islanders (11-6-4) Friday, August 15. Kickoff at Stafire is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.

The Sounders return to league action after a disappointing U.S. Open Cup semifinal loss to the USL-1 Charleston Battery. Seattle's last league match came in Minnesota on August 10. Playing without a number of key starters, the Thunder defeated Seattle 3-1. Sounders forward Jason Cascio's first career goal was offset by two from Ricardo Sanchez and a goal from Melvin Tarley.

Seattle had won three straight prior to the loss, the most recent versus the Portland Timbers, 1-0 at PGE Park. In the match Sebastien Le Toux scored his tenth goal of the season, putting him in a tie with Atlanta's Macoumba Kandji and Miami's Alex Afonso.

As the playoffs near, the Sounders look to regain that winning edge against the Puerto Rico Islanders. Puerto Rico is currently tied with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the league lead (37 points), and are 7-1-1 since July 4. Their only loss came against the Sounders in Puerto Rico, 2-1 on August 1. Josh Gardner and Le Toux each scored in the match to give the Sounders the win. The first match between the two sides played on May 30 resulted in a 1-1 draw with Taylor Graham scoring the equalizer in the 77th minute. This is the final regular season meeting between the two sides and the only one in Seattle.

The Islanders are led by former Sounders forward Josh Hansen, who shares the team lead with defender Christian Arrieta in goals scored with five.

The final seven games of the season for Seattle will be played at Starfire. The Sounders next take on the Vancouver Whitecaps in a critical Cascadia Cup matchup, Wednesday, August 20.
