Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - After emerging victorious against Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park and going back atop the Western Conference, Seattle Sounders FC (14-5-6, 48 points) travels to face the San Jose Earthquakes (8-9-9, 33 points) Wednesday evening at PayPal Park (7:30 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, 1090 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Media resources for today's match are available below, including soundbytes from Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer and defender Shane O'Neill.
Sounders FC and San Jose have met two other times this season and have split the series 1-1-0, with both matches ending in a 1-0 scoreline. The two squads first met this season on May 12 at PayPal Park in a memorable match that saw Seattle defender Alex Roldan finish the match at goalkeeper after a late injury to Stefan Frei. Roldan went on to make a save in stoppage time to hang onto the 1-0 lead.
The two sides met again on July 31 at Lumen Field, where the visitors were able to bag a goal in first-half stoppage time to escape with a 1-0 victory.
A win would further cement the Rave Green's first place standing in the Western Conference, as they sit two points above second-place Sporting Kansas City with one game in-hand. San Jose currently sits in 10th place in the Western Conference standings with 33 points.
Following Sunday's match, Sounders FC returns to Lumen Field to take on the Colorado Rapids on Sunday, October 3 (7:00 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, 1090 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
