SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced that it has acquired defender Jonathan Campbell from the Chicago Fire in exchange for its natural Fourth Round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. The 25-year-old center back has 72 MLS regular-season appearances for Chicago after being selected 12th overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of North Carolina.

"Jonathan is a young, talented player who we think can provide some depth for us heading into 2019," said Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. "We are looking forward to bringing him into camp and seeing how he fits into our group."
Campbell, 25, has started 49 of his 72 career games played in his MLS career, recording one goal and two assists. After being selected with Chicago's top draft pick in 2016, Campbell started 30 of 33 appearances as a rookie, tallying one goal and one assist. The six-foot-two defender is coming off of a 2018 season in which he appeared in 15 games (11 starts).
A four-year starter at North Carolina, Campbell finished his career with three goals and seven assists in 74 appearances. He became the first player in Tar Heels history to earn First-Team All-American and Academic All-American honors in the same year in 2015, and received conference recognition in all four of his seasons in Chapel Hill. The Greensboro native also spent time with Sounders FC U-23 of the PDL in 2015.
Sounders FC announced last week that it will open the 2019 season at home on March 2 vs. FC Cincinnati. That match, along with other Sounders FC 2019 home matches are available exclusively through Sounders FC Season Ticket Memberships. Fan can purchase memberships online through SoundersFC.com/Tickets.
