Tacoma Defiance News Release

TUKWILA, WASH. - Aaron Kovar netted the match's lone goal in the first half as Seattle Sounders FC 2 (1-3-1, 4 points) earned its first win of the season versus Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (2-1-0, 6 points) on Sunday evening at Starfire Stadium. The contest marks the end of a five-game homestand for the Rave Green, who play their next fixture on the road against Real Monarchs SLC on Tuesday, April 26.

In the 27th minute, S2 midfielder Zach Mathers earned a penalty after a reckless challenge from Switchbacks FC's Josh Phillips. The following minute, Kovar slotted the game-winner to the bottom left corner of the net.

For the rest of the match, Seattle's backline - which featured First Team players Oniel Fisher and Tony Alfaro, Nouhou Tolo in his second start and 2016 MLS SuperDraft selection Michael Nelson in his USL debut - kept Switchbacks FC's attack at bay. In the 43rdminute, Seattle goalkeeper Tyler Miller made a quick reactionary save from close range. The second-year pro from Northwestern prevented another dangerous attack in the 84th minute when he caught a free-kick service on his line. He ended the match with six saves.

Also of note, Homegrown Player Jordan Schweitzer made his professional debut in the midfield in the 72nd minute.

With the homestand wrapped up, S2's next match is set for April 26 at 6:00 p.m. PT against Real Monarchs SLC in the club's first road contest of the season. S2 Flex Plans are available now. For a cost of $100, choose any eight combinations for all remaining S2 home matches. Additional information on the S2 Flex Plan, season tickets, group tickets or single-match options, can be found via: www.SoundersFC.com/S2/Tickets.
