Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. (April 18, 2016) - After playing his first match in Saturday night's 1-0 win over San Antonio FC, midfielder Oriol Cortes has officially been announced as the club's newest signing for the 2016 season.
"I'm really excited for this opportunity to be a part of a club with such high ambitions for the season," said Cortes. "I feel lucky to be in Orange County and to start my professional career here in the U.S."
Cortes enters his first year of American professional soccer after growing up in Barcelona, Spain. He originally moved to the U.S. for college, where he played soccer for Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina from 2009-2011.
Then Cortes returned to Barcelona in 2012, where he played for C.E. Jupiter in the Third Division of professional soccer in Spain. He spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with Spanish side UE Castelldefels, also of the Third Division. Cortes returned to America to join PDL side Cincinnati Dutch Lions during the 2015 season, where he tallied 4 goals and 2 assists across 13 appearances.
After training with the OC Blues during the preseason, Cortes officially inked his deal with the club just days before the team's last match. Cortes made his first appearance when he featured in the starting lineup for the OC Blues on Saturday night. The Spaniard played all 94 minutes of the match, as the Blues earned their first win of the season with the 1-0 victory over San Antonio FC.
The OC Blues are back at Anteater Stadium this Wednesday at 7:30pm when they host the Portland Timbers 2. For media inquiries, please email ray@ocbluesfc.com.
