SEATTLE, WASH. - In its first-ever USL Playoff match, Seattle Sounders FC 2 fell 2-0 at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the USL Western Conference Quarterfinal at Sand Creek Stadium. The Rave Green gave up two first-half goals en route to the Switchbacks FC win.
Switchbacks FC opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a counterattack following an S2 corner. Colorado Springs leading goal-scorer Luke Vercollone dribbled up the center before sliding his pass to the right, finding Miguel Gonzalez who took two touches in the box before firing past S2 goalkeeper Charlie Lyon.
Colorado Springs doubled its lead in the 22nd minute via a Nate Robinson corner kick that found JJ Greer, who rose to head his shot down. The header hit the ground in front of the net before deflecting off an S2 defender into the net.
S2 was held to just nine shots in the match with defender Ashani Fairclough leading the Rave Green with two shots on goal.
With the loss, S2 concludes its inaugural 2015 season with a 15-14-3 record across all competitions. The club now returns home to begin offseason preparations in Seattle.
