Tacoma Defiance News Release

SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC 2 began its 2016 USL season on Friday evening with a 1-0 home loss to Sacramento Republic FC, with the visitors scoring the match's lone goal via a second-half penalty kick. S2 continues its five-match season-opening homestand on Wednesday against Arizona United SC, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. PT at Starfire Stadium.

After a scoreless first hour of play, referee Baboucarr Jallow signaled for a penalty in the 62nd minute on a challenge from Seattle defender Tony Alfaro. Sacramento's Thomas Stewart buried the attempt from the spot to the bottom right corner.

The two sides played to a scoreless first half, with just a shot on goal each from both sides. Forward Darwin Jones, a second-year Homegrown Player, saw an early chance in the 16th minute, but his free-kick attempt from just outside the area sailed high.

The Rave Green defeated Republic FC 4-2 in last year's USL opener, as S2 earned three points in the team's inaugural match at Starfire Stadium.

Following Wendesday's match against Arizona United SC (7:30 p.m. PT / live-streamed on Sounders FC.com), S2 continues its homestand on Sunday, April 3 at 5:00 p.m. PT. S2 season ticket packages are available now, starting as low as at $9 per match via the following link: http://sndrs.com/aju4.
