(Oklahoma City, OK.) The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC earned their first win of the season in a heavily contested match against their rivals, Oklahoma City Energy FC 1-2.

The first half saw the Switchbacks apply pressure in the attacking third for a good majority of the first half. Miguel Gonzalez had a few shots early in the first half but wasn't quite able to score after Energy FC keeper Cody Laurendi was able to make a few saves and one Gonzalez shot went inches over the bar. It appeared as though Marty Maybin had scored in the 23rdminute but he was offside and the goal was called back. It wouldn't take long for Maybin to find the back of the net after beating two Energy FC defenders and slotting the ball into an open net in the 31st minute to give the Switchbacks a 1-0 lead. The Switchbacks would take that lead into halftime despite a dangerous ball from a free kick just outside the 18 yard box.

It would only take Miguel Gonzalez 9 minutes into the second half to tear through the Energy FC back line and rip one inside the box to double the Switchbacks lead in the 54th minute.

"There is nothing but happiness right now, said goal scorer Miguel Gonzalez, "they know how hard we've worked in the preseason to get this result we worked our hearts out and we definitely deserved that result."

The Energy would get one back in the 63rd minute on an own goal by Josh Phillips from a corner kick. The Energy would continue to apply pressure late in the game with stoppage time going nearly 9 minutes.

"Energy FC is a good team, the first half was one of our best halves we've played, even last year." Head Coach Steve Trittschuh said, "Two teams fighting it out and we came out with the three points."

This was the first time the Switchbacks came away from a match vs the Energy with three points. The last time the teams met, it was in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. With the win, the Switchbacks will head home to play Arizona United SC in the team's home opener on Saturday April 9th at 1:30 PM MDT.
