Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Scott Munroe made 22 saves and Victor Bartley scored his first AHL goal as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers shutout the Springfield Falcons, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Bridgeport has now earned points in six of their last seven games to improve their record to 18-14-1-2.
Tyler Haskins opened the scoring 4:05 into the game. After being denied on his first shot, Haskins pounded a loose rebound through J.P. Lavasseur's legs for his fourth goal of the year. The goal triggered the annual teddy bear toss as hundreds of stuffed animals were thrown on the ice and will be donated to local children's hopitals during the holiday season.
The Sound Tigers went up 2-0 with 1:10 left in the first period when Bartley scored his first AHL goal. Dustin Kohn was able to keep a Springfield clearing attempt in the offensive zone and sent a pass across the blue-line to Bartley who ripped a shot from the point past Lavasseur.
"Dustin made a nice feed over to me and I heard Greg Moore yelling to shoot," Bartley said after the game.
The two first period goals were all Munroe needed as he recorded his second shutout of the season and the third shutout by a Sound Tigers goaltender this year. Munroe's best save came midway through the first period when he made a pad stop on a breakaway attempt by Liam Reddox.
"The breakaway save was a big turning point in the game," Munroe said. "We played hard as a team and that was a big save at a big time."
Bridgeport out-shot Springfield 32-22 for the game. "I thought it was a great effort for us, start to finish," Sound Tigers Head Coach Jack Capuano said.
The Sound Tigers are back in action Saturday night when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack. Face-off at Harbor Yard is set for 7:00 pm. For tickets, please call TicketMaster at 1-800-745-3000 or log on to www.soundtigers.com
