February 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Buffalo, N.Y.-The Strong Island Sound won two important road games this weekend before the league takes time off for the All-Star break. They had to visit the Newark Express on Friday and then go up to Buffalo on Sunday to face the Rapids. The Sound took both games from tough teams and held their position as number 16 in the ABA Power Ranking. If the season ended today, the Sound would host a first round playoff game.

Earlier in the season the Newark Express had the Sound's number. But in the past two meetings it has been Strong Island who have come out ahead. This latest game ended with the Sound victorious by a score of 113-108. The Express had cut down a 17 point deficit to 1 with a minute left. But the Sound were able to hold on for the win.

On to Buffalo to face the Rapids, the two teams were playing a tight game until the fourth quarter. That's when Strong Island opened up the game to win by a score of 116-101. They outscored the home team in the final stanza by 12 points. Guard Chris Sandy had a big game for the Sound, scoring 24 points in 25 minutes. The former Harlem Globetrotter went 8-14 from the field, 2-4 from 3-point territory, 6-7 from the free throw line, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Guard Michael Campbell had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes. Campbell also chipped in with 4 steals. Corey Underwood had 20 points and "Fridge" Holeman had 15 points.

Avery Headley of the Strong Island Sound will represent the team at the All-Star game skills competition in the Slam Dunk Contest. Strong Island's next two games are on Friday February 17th at Suffolk Community College versus the Maryland Nighthawks (Police Dept. Appreciation Night) and Saturday February 18th at St. Joseph's College versus the Harlem Strongdogs (Fire Dept. Appreciation Night).
