Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA - Angelo Songco ripped a tie-breaking shot in the top of the seventh inning, as the Quakes won third straight game with a 3-2 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm at The Diamond on Saturday night.

With Lake Elsinore tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Songco didn't allow the game to remain tied for long, as he blasted Matt Andriese's (8-7) first pitch over the wall in right-center. His third homer of the year put the Quakes ahead to stay.

Steve Smith struck out four batters over 1 2/3 innings to earn his third save of the year, helping Rancho stay within three games of Lancaster for the final South Division Wild Card.

The Quakes received some outstanding work on the hill on Saturday night, as Rubby De La Rosa fired two scoreless frames, while Brandon Martinez (4-3) followed with five strong frames, allowing just one earned run to net the victory.

Rancho's offense got going early, as rehabbing Dodger Adam Kennedy opened the game with a single and later scored on a Lake Elsinore error, making it 1-0. Joc Pederson would later score on Songco's first of two hits, a one-out RBI single to put the Quakes up 2-0.

Casey McElroy drove in both Lake Elsinore runs, as his two-run double in the sixth evened the game at 2-2.

The Quakes (18-24, 55-57) still trail Lancaster by three games in the Wild Card, but look for a three-game sweep of Lake Elsinore on Sunday evening. Ryan Acosta (1-0) moves into the rotation and makes his first start of the year, while Mark Pope (6-7) will throw for the Storm. First pitch on Sunday from The Diamond will be at 5:05pm.

The Quakes return to The Epicenter on Friday, August 11th, opening a three-game home stand against the Storm. Friday will be another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, as all hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches will be just $1 throughout the night. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
