Lake Elsinore Storm News Release

Lake Elsinore - With former Storm Tim Stauffer on the mound in a Major League rehab start, the Storm failed to gain early control of the game as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes scored two in the first as Major Leaguer Adam Kennedy scored the first run and the Quakes would capture the 3-2 victory.

The Quakes second run came when Angelo Songco singled scoring Joc Pederson who reached base on a walk giving Rancho a 2-0 lead.

Storm pitcher Matt Andriese came in for his first relief appearance of the season holding off the Quakes throwing six scoreless innings to keep the opponents at bay.

The Storm would tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth. Michael Wing reached on throw across the diamond and in the dirt by Kennedy. Everett Williams singled to first as the base was left uncovered putting runners on first and third with one out. Casey McElroy would collect two RBI after doubling down the right field line sending the ball rolling to the wall. Just like that the game was tied 2-2.

In the top of the seventh, Songco hit a homerun over the right field fence, the first home run Andriese has allowed in 60 innings at the Diamond this season.

Andriese went seven innings allowing only two hits and had retired 10 batters in a row. Before Songco's home run, Andriese had only given up home runs in High Desert all season.

Catcher Chris O'Dowd collected his first extra-base hit in the seventh when he doubled to left field.

The Storm face the Quakes for the final game of the series at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.

The Storm have an off day on Monday but fans can join the players for some off the field fun. Storm Baseball present the 8th annual Storm golf Tourney at Redhawk Golf Course. Breakfast and check-in will begin at 8 a.m. with the Shotgun start set to go off at 9 a.m. All proceeds will go to the San Diego Blood Bank.
