August 5, 2012 - California League (CalL1)
San Jose Giants News Release

SAN BERNARDINO - Jack Snodgrass tossed seven scoreless innings and the San Jose Giants took control of the game with a seven-run top of the second in a 10-0 blowout victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday evening at San Manuel Stadium. Adam Duvall homered for the third time in the last two games while San Jose earned their league- leading ninth shutout of the season. The Giants have now won five out of their last six games to improve their overall record to 58-54.

Snodgrass (10-4) picked-up his team-leading 10th win of the season after limiting the 66ers to just four hits during his stint on the mound. The left-hander walked two and struck out one.

Duvall (1-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) clubbed his 23rd home run of a year - a three-run blast during the second-inning rally - to lead the offensive attack. Jarrett Parker (2-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI) and Andrew Susac (1- for-3, 2 RBI) also drove home a pair of runs while Ricky Oropesa (2- for-5, 2B) added two hits. San Jose has now scored 52 runs over their last six games.

After neither team scored in the first inning, the top of the second began with consecutive singles from Oropesa and Alex Burg. Parker then lined a double into the right field corner to score both runners giving the Giants a 2-0 lead. On the play, Parker also advanced to third when the right fielder Andrew Heid bobbled the ball for an error. Parker then immediately scored when the next batter, Susac, hit a sacrifice fly to center.

With two outs and the bases empty, the rally restarted when Bobby Haney singled up the middle. After Carter Jurica was hit by a pitch, Joe Panik ripped a double down the right field line to bring home Haney for a 4-0 advantage. Duvall was up next and he crushed the first pitch over the fence in deep left for a three-run homer and a 7-0 lead.

San Jose added single runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings to eventually push their advantage to 10-0. In the top of the fourth, Jarrad Page led off with a triple down the right field line. Then with Haney at the plate, 66ers catcher Jett Bandy threw the ball wildly to third on a pick-off attempt allowing Page to score.

In the sixth, Parker led off with a triple and scored when the next batter, Susac, lined a single to left. Then in the top of the eighth, Susac drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second when Page walked, took third on Haney's fly out and then scored when Jurica reached base on an error.

Meanwhile, Snodgrass worked around a two-out double in the bottom of the first and a two-out walk in the second. In the third, back-to- back singles from Jean Almanzar and Heid put runners on first and second with none out. However, Snodgrass retired Taylor Lindsey on a pop out before Kaleb Cowart hit into a fielder's choice for the second out and then C.J. Cron popped out to end the inning.

Snodgrass set down Inland Empire 1-2-3 in the fourth and fifth innings and had retired 10 straight batters until issuing a one-out walk in the bottom of the sixth to Cowart. With two outs, Randal Grichuk singled to put runners on the corners, but Rolando Gomez then grounded out to end the threat. Snodgrass finished his night with an eight- pitch 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Drew Bowlin (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO) preserved the shutout with a scoreless bottom of the eighth before Jose Valdez (1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO) stranded the bases loaded in the ninth pitching through a pair of singles and a walk to finish the game.

66ers starter Manny Correa (6-8) suffered the loss after he was tagged for nine runs (all earned) on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Correa struck out two and walked none.
