Songco and DiFazio Tie Team Single-Season RBI Mark as Saints Get Win 70 in 10-4 Victory

ST. PAUL, MN (September 2, 2015) - It's only fitting that both Angelo Songco and Vinny DiFazio tied the single-season franchise record for RBI on the same night. An 18-year-old record held by David Kennedy, DiFazio drove in three, Songco one and both have 80 RBI on the season as the Saints crushed the Gary SouthShore Railcats 10-4 on Wednesday night at CHS Field in front of 7,612. The win improved the Saints to 70-25 becoming just the third American Association franchise to 70 wins. The 2014 Wichita Wingnuts hold the record with 73 and the Sioux City Explorers, the Saints first round playoff opponent, won their 72nd on Wednesday night.

The night didn't start off well for the Saints as the Railcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from Dustin Geiger.

In the second the Railcats made it 4-0. Michael Vaughn led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Spencer Mahoney. Jarred Mederos then laid down a bunt that Songco fielded at first and shoveled to the plate, but wasn't in time to get Vaughn. A wild pitch made it 3-0 and an RBI single from Adam Taylor put the Railcats up 4-0.

The Saints, however, needed just one turn at bat to take the lead for good. In the bottom of the third they sent nine men to the plate and scored five runs, all with two outs. With two outs and one on Ryan Cavan singled to put runners at first and second. David Espinosa made it 4-1 with an RBI single. DiFazio plated two with a double to make it 4-3. Songco picked up his 80th RBI on the year with an RBI single to tie the game at four. Ian Gac gave the Saints the lead with an RBI double to make it 5-4.

In the fourth the Saints scored three runs, once again with two outs. Dan Kaczrowski reached on a two-out single. Cavan's single put runners at first and second and Espinosa made it 6-4 with an RBI single. A wild pitch scored Cavan to make it 7-4 and DiFazio picked up his 80th RBI with an RBI single to left making it 8-4. DiFazio finished the night 2-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored.

The Saints picked up their final two runs in the fifth when Ryan Lashley singled with one out. He was lifted for pinch runner Alonzo Harris. With two outs Anthony Phillips was hit by a pitch. Kaczrowski followed with an RBI single scoring Harris. Kaczrowski was then caught between first and second, but in the run down second baseman Alex Hernandez' throw hit Kaczrowski in the back allowing Phillips to score the Saints final run.

The same two teams meet in game three of the four game series on Thursday night at CHS Field at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Kramer Sneed (14-3, 3.00) to the mound against Railcats RHP Charle Rosario (12-7, 3.74). There is no radio, but the game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities area, heard in the ballpark on 97.9 FM and seen online at saintsbaseball.com.
