Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, New Jersey - The Somerset Patriots (26-17) completed a weekend sweep of the York Revolution (13-30) with a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Patriots opened the scoring on a beautiful afternoon in the bottom of the second inning. Justin Pacchioli reached base on a two-out double down the left field line, stole third base and then scored on a throwing error by York catcher James Skelton.
York tied up the game in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI double from Isaias Tejeda. The Revs took their first lead one inning later on a two-out RBI double from J.P. Sportman.
Somerset regained its lead the very next half inning. Scott Kelly drew a lead-off walk and advanced to third on a two-base throwing error from York starting pitcher Mitch Atkins. Kelly then raced home on a Yovan Gonzalez RBI fielder's choice.
Rey Navarro added a sacrifice fly later in the frame to put the Patriots ahead 3-2 before Edwin Espinal's two-out RBI double to right field topped off the scoring for the inning.
The Revs got a run back in the top of the seventh on a Sportman two-out RBI single, but that was as close as they would get. Mike Broadway tossed a scoreless inning-and-a-third of relief through the eighth before Mike Antonini (16) locked down the save with a scoreless ninth.
David Kubiak (5-1) earned the win after yielding just two runs over six innings with seven strikeouts. Mitch Atkins (1-4) suffered the loss by allowing four runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings.
The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, June 14th when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, including a postgame fireworks show.
