Sugar Land, Texas - The Somerset Patriots (13-12, 55-39) ended their road trip on a positive note with a 3-2 win over the Sugar Land Skeeters (12-13, 42-53) Wednesday night at Constellation Field.
After a 45-minute rain delay set back first pitch, Kyle Roller opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-run double down the right field line. Sugar Land cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame on Cole Gillespie's RBI single to center field.
The Skeeters tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth when Derek Miller scored from third base on a passed ball, but the Patriots responded immediately in the top of the sixth.
Justin Pacchioli got the inning started with a base hit. He then stole second, advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a two-out Mark Minicozzi RBI single into center field.
Sugar Land got a couple of guys on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Ronnie Shaban worked out of the jam to close the door.
Dustin Antolin (1-1) earned the win after tossing a scoreless inning and a third. Mitch Talbot (5-3) yielded three runs over six innings to take the loss. Shaban (8) earned the save with a scoreless ninth.
