Calgary Vipers News Release
Leading 1-0 the Calgary Vipers gave up two late home runs in being defeated 2-1 in ten innings by the Edmonton Capitals in front of 6065 fans at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. Trailing by one run in the bottom of the eighth inning the Capitals hit a solo home run to tie the game and in extra innings blasted another solo shot for the victory. With the loss the Vipers have dropped seven straight games and fall to 20-15 on the Golden Baseball League season. With the Chico Outlaws still in action the Snakes are now tied with the Capitals for second place in the North Division and six games back of first.
Making the start Erik Dessau was fantastic for the Snakes, pitching six scoreless innings while striking out seven. Rene Miniel (2-3) took his second loss in three days by giving up the game winning big fly.
At the plate Jonny Kaplan led the way for the Vipers by reaching base three times and scoring Calgary's only run.
Calgary took advantage of an error in the top of the first inning as Jonny Kaplan walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout, Kevin Price walked, and with two outs Drew Miller reached and Kaplan scored on a throwing error for a 1-0 lead.
Alex Prieto hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning for Edmonton to tie the score 1-1.
In the bottom of the tenth inning Tom Collaro smacked a walk-off home run to hand the Capitals a 2-1 victory.
