Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Gary SouthShore RailCats turned on the gas, and starting pitcher Rene Solis put the bus in cruise control, downing the Can-Am League's New Jersey Jackals 5-2 at the U.S. Steel Yard Thursday.

In the second, No. 9 hitter Jarred Mederos and leadoff hitter Matt Hibbert both collected their first hits and RBIs as RailCats to put the 'Cats (43-47) on top for good.

The team put together a three-run fifth inning on a Dustin Geiger double, wild pitch and Alex Hernandez single.

Solis had his longest start of the season, going 7.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out six opposing hitters.

The RailCats remain seven games behind the Laredo Lemurs in the race for the wildcard, and their elimination number stands at four with the Lemurs' win.

Charle Rosario (12-7) and righty Gabriel Perez (8-3) square off in game two of the four game set against the Jackals (48-39) on the final Fifth Third Bank Fireworks night of the 2015 season Friday.
