St. Paul Saints News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS (August 27, 2015) - The St. Paul Saints were without a starting pitcher on Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. They also were short on arms in the bullpen. Three relievers combined to give George Tsamis everything they had, but a late run proved to be the difference as the Saints lost 5-4 to the Kansas City T-Bones.
Chris Peacock got his first start of the season after 25 relief appearances and was given a 1-0 lead in the second. Nate Hanson roped a one out double to left-center and with two outs scored on Dan Kaczrowski's RBI single.
In the bottom of the third Peacock walked the leadoff man Alex Marquez. He was sacrificed to second by Sergio Leon. Peacock walked Starlin Rodriguez and Nate Tenbrink made it 2-1 with a two-run double. Peacock went 3.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking two.
The Saints regained the lead in the fifth when Ian Gac walked with two outs. Angelo Songco singled to center and Ryan Lashley knocked them both home with a double to give the Saints a 3-2 lead.
Alex Sogard took over for Peacock in the fourth and retired the first six men he faced. In the sixth he walked Tenbrink, but got Jake Blackwood to ground into a double play. Adam Bailey and Kyle Robinson, however, hit back-to-back solo homers, their 15th and fifth respectively, to give the T-Bones a 4-3 lead. Sogard went 3.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out one.
In the seventh the Saints tied the game up, but could have done more damage. Gac led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Songco followed with a single and Lashley reached on an error by third baseman Tenbrink to load the bases. Joey Paciorek brought home a run on a double play ground out and Hanson popped out to end the inning.
Dylan Chavez took over for Sogard in the seventh and faced the minimum, getting an inning ending double play. In the eighth, however, he gave up a leadoff double to Rodriguez. He was sacrificed to third and scored on Blackwood's RBI single. Chavez went 2.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out one to take the loss.
The same two teams meet in game two of the four game series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Saints send LHP Kramer Sneed (13-3, 3.08) to the mound against T-Bones LHP Kris Regas (6-3, 4.93).
