ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with Alexandre Ranger for the 2018-19 season after acquiring his rights from the Tulsa Oilers in exchange for the rights to defenseman Adam Phillips. Additionally, veteran defenseman Taylor Doherty has been suspended by the Solar Bears after signing with BÃlà Tyg?i Liberec of the Czech Republic.
Ranger, 22, played in 47 games with Tulsa in the 2017-18 season and recorded 23 points (7g-16a) and 55 penalty minutes.
"Alexandre is a skilled forward who has a history of contributing on offense in the ECHL," Solar Bears head coach Drake Berehowsky said. "He's also someone who plays with an edge and will fit within our system."
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward has amassed 53 points (21g-32a) and 133 penalty minutes in 107 games with Tulsa and Norfolk. He has also skated in 32 American Hockey League games with the St. John's IceCaps and San Antonio Rampage, producing five points (3g-2a) and 14 penalty minutes.
"I'm very excited to join the Solar Bears this season and play in Orlando," Ranger said. "This is a great opportunity to prove myself and help this team win this year."
Prior to turning pro, the native of Châteauguay, Quebec played junior hockey for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 224 career games, Ranger tallied 133 points (65g-68a) and 229 penalty minutes.
Phillips, 28, skated in 52 regular season games with Orlando during the 2017-18 campaign, and registered eight points (2g-6a) and 20 penalty minutes. The defenseman added one assist and eight penalty minutes in eight playoff contests.
