Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, announced that since starting operations, the organization has now raised and donated $1.3 million to the Central Florida community.
Through Solar Bears Cares, which offers local non-profit organizations the opportunity to fundraise and spread awareness, the Solar Bears have now donated to over 500 local charities, schools, and churches since 2011. The $1.3 million donated includes contributions made by Solar Bears fans and ownership, and Levy Restaurants.
In the organization's history, Solar Bears players, coaches, and Shades (team mascot), have made over 400 community appearances. Orlando's ownership and management team sit on a number of local Boards, including the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the Boy Scouts of America Central Florida Council, the Central Florida High School Hockey League, the Community Food and Outreach Center, the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, the Christian Service Center, the Downtown Orlando Partnership, Florida Hospital Winter Garden, the Nap Ford Community School, the Orlando Economic Development Commission, and the Roper YMCA.
Along with the $1.3 million donated to the Central Florida community, the Solar Bears have collectively made more than a $50 million economic impact since coming "Out of Hibernation" in 2011. Hundreds of jobs have been created and thousands of fans have flocked downtown to patronize local establishments since the Solar Bears returned to action.
