Sockers Take on KiXX Tomorrow

The San Diego Sockers are making a pit stop in their hometown to face the Philadelphia KiXX, before hitting the road for a Dec. 7 game in Cleveland and a Dec. 13 game against the Dallas Sidekicks. The team returns home to play the St. Louis Steamers on Dec. 14 for the first time this season.

About the Opponent

Holding first place in the Eastern Division, the Philadelphia KiXX go into this weekend's contests with a 6-2 record. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season.

Goran Vasic leads the team and the League with 18 points and 14 assists. Kevin Sloan leads the team and League with 11 goals. Pat Morris tops the team with 16 blocks followed by player/coach Don D'Ambra. Peter Pappas leads the team and the MISL with six wins, 467 minutes played and 109 saves.

A win would:

Give the Sockers their first first win against the Philadelphia KiXX this season.

Be the third win for the Sockers this season.

A loss would:

Mark the second losing streak of the season.

Drop the Sockers to a 2-6 overall record.

Last Time: San Diego 1 at Baltimore 3

The San Diego Sockers stopped the two-game winning streak last weekend with a 1-3 loss to the Baltimore Blast in Baltimore.

Sean Bowers scored the only goal for the Sockers at 8:41 in the first quarter. Bowers also totaled three blocked shots in the contest. Victor Nogueira took the loss with 13 saves against 16 shots faced.

Bowers Named to 2003 U.S. National Futsal Team Sockers defender Sean Bowers was named to the 2003 U.S. National Futsal Team roster. Bowers leads the roster with 23 caps.

Nogueira, Bowers Earn MISL Honors

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced that Victor Nogueira and Sean Bowers won Goalkeeper and Defender of the Week, respectively, for the week ending November 9, 2003.

Nogueira won his first two games of the season against Dallas (3-1) and Kansas City (6-3). He totaled 28 saves in the two games. Bowers earned Defender of the Week with four blocks and two goals.

Beware of Streakers

Kevin Sakuda and Robbie Aristodemo have played in every game dating back to last season. Both players are at 44 games each. Mark Ughy halted a streak of his own. Up until the Nov, 9 game against the Comets, he had scored a goal or grabbed an assist in every game this season.

The Power of Bowers

The Sockers defender is eighth all-time with 917 blocks and is only three blocks from moving into seventh.

New Playoff Format

The MISL has adopted a new playoff format that expands the League Finals to a best-of-five series that will be featured on Fox Sports World. Six of the nine teams will have the opportunity at the championship, with the top teams in each division receiving an automatic bid. Remaining slots are filled by three teams with the best regular-season record. The first two rounds remain single elimination.
