San Diego Sockers News Release

With four assists on the night, Paul Wright broke the 900-point mark and helped lead the Sockers to a 7-2 win over the Kansas City Comets. Nino DaSilva also made his presence felt by recording his second hat trick of the season. The Sockers improved to a 10-10 record, one game behind the Dallas Sidekicks in the Western Division.

Kansas City struck first on Miodrag Djerisilo's unassisted goal at 7:54 in the first (1-0). Mauricio Alegre evened the contest two minutes later after receiving a long pass from Paul Wright. Midway through the second, Nino DaSilva gave the Sockers their first lead of the night off an assist by Mauricio Alegre (1-2). Fourteen seconds later, DaSilva, with help from Paul Wright, increased the Sockers lead to 3-1. The Comets' Nate Houser narrowed the gap to one with a goal at 8:13 of the second period, assisted by Brian Soell. It would be the last time the Comets scored for the night.

At 2:20 in the third, DaSilva posted his second hat trick of the season, assisted by Paul Wright, who recorded his 900th career point with the assist (2-4). Late in the third, Alegre, on power play, scored his eleventh goal of the season assisted by Paul Wright. Kansas City had their chance to score on a power play but couldn't convert and went scoreless in the period. Brad Flanagan recorded his first point since joining the Sockers with an assist to Tony Velazquez at 4:16 in the fourth to put the team up 6-2. Mariano Bollella converted a shoot-out goal at 13:32 in the fourth, and slammed home the final nail in the Comets' coffin. With the victory, the Sockers ended a two-game skid and improved their home record to 8-5.

Bollella and Velazquez led the Sockers' defense with three blocks each. Goalkeeper Victor Nogueira recorded a season-high 18 saves off 20 shots, en route to his tenth victory of the season.

The Sockers travel to Dallas to face the Sidekicks on Saturday, January 31. The game will be the first of three straight on the road for the Sockers.

The team will not see action at home until the Valentine's Day affair on February 14 against the Baltimore Blast.
