
Sobolewski Single Gives Fisher Cats 2-1 Win

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(Portland, ME)-Mark Sobolewski delivered a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and Henderson Alvarez worked six innings to earn his second win as the Fisher Cats beat Portland 2-1 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.
In the seventh, Mike McDade and Moises Sierra hit consecutive singles, Travis d'Arnaud grounded out as McDade took third. After Ricardo Nanita struck out, Sobolewski ripped a single back up the middle with what proved to be the game-winning hit.
Alvarez (2-0), making his second Double-A start, worked the first six innings, allowing one run on six hits. He walked two and struck out. New Hampshire received stellar relief outings from Yohan Pino, Bobby Korecky and Alan Farina. Farina earned his sixth save with a perfect ninth inning with one streak.
Portland (13-29) opened the scoring with two infield singles in the bottom of the first inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker (2-for-3) beat out a grounder to deep short and stole second base. He moved to third on a groundout and scored on a high chop to third by Tim Federowicz for a 1-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats (29-16) tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth. Sobolewski reached on a two-base error and scored on a single by Callix Crabbe.
Cesar Cabral (0-2), the second Portland pitcher of the night, took the loss. Sea Dogs starter Alex Wilson worked the first six innings, allowing three hits and one run (unearned). He walked two and struck out six.
The Fisher Cats conclude the four-game series in Portland on Thursday night at 6:00pm. New Hampshire will start RHP B. J. LaMura (2-3, 3.38). Radio coverage with Bob Lipman begins at 5:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
