Sneed Solid on Hill as Saints Win Third Straight, 4-2 over RedHawks

ST. PAUL, MN (July 3, 2015) - Perhaps it's becoming a friendly competition among the St. Paul Saints starting pitchers. Every fifth day they run out to the mound and see if they can play a game of Can You Top This. It was Kramer Sneed's turn on Friday night and he more than delivered as the Saints took down the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-2 in front of a season high 9,393 at CHS Field.

Sneed was shaky in the first inning, the lone rough spot he had all night. With one out he gave up a solo homer to Zach Penprase, his second of the season, to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Sneed walked Chad Mozingo, who stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Joe Dunigan to make it 2-0. That was the last bit of big trouble Sneed would get into on the night.

Sneed gave up a single in the third and then retired nine in a row before giving up a two out single in the sixth. In the eighth Drew Muren led off with a double. Saints manager George Tsamis went out to the mound, but Sneed talked himself into staying in the game. He made his manager look brilliant as he got Penprase to fly out to shallow left and Mozingo to ground out to short. Sneed left the game in favor of reliever Mike Zouzalik who retired Joe Bonfe to end the inning. Sneed went 7.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six while picking up his American Association leading seventh win.

The Saints offense made sure the 2-0 deficit evaporated quickly. Alonzo Harris led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer to left, his fourth of the season, to make it 2-1.

In the second the Saints tied it up. Anthony Phillips reached on a throwing error by third baseman Brent Peterson. A walk to Dan Kaczrowski put runners at first and second. With two outs Vinny DiFazio singled home Phillips to tie the game at two.

In the fifth DiFazio reached on a one out infield single to short. He went 3-4 on the night and raised his batting average to an incredible .427. Ian Gac walked and, with two outs, Mike Kvasnicka lined an RBI single into left to give the Saints a 3-2 lead.

Gac added an insurance run in the seventh, a solo shot to left, his sixth of the season and third in three games.

The same two teams meet in the second game of the three game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. It is the July Fourth Fireworks Super Show, a 20-minute extravaganza following the game. The Saints will wear special jersey's that will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the victim's family's of the Charleston Church shooting. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, Cable Access channels in the Twin Cities area, heard on Sports Radio 105 The Ticket and in the ballpark on 97.9 FM.
