Offensive Struggles Continue as 'Cats Fall to Fargo

July 3, 2015 - American Association (AA)
Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

For the third straight night, the Gary SouthShore RailCats fell behind early in the ballgame but, after rallying the two nights prior, could not complete the comeback and Thursday in front of 5,470 fans at the U.S. Steel Yard against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.

The 'Cats (20-18) dropped the series finale 3-1 on an early Fourth of July celebration at the Steel Yard.

Starter Chris Cummins gave up a three spot in the third inning and was pulled after the fourth after throwing 77 pitches and surrendering six hits and two walks.

Gary was no-hit through 6.2 innings Wednesday by Redhawks starter Taylor Stanton and didn't register a hit until there were two outs in fifth inning Thursday.

Ryan Brocket's RBI single to right field broke up Fargo lefty Joe Harris' no-no with two men on and two outs in the fifth to make it a 3-1 game.

That was all the RailCats could muster against the Fargo pitching staff. The team had threats in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't get the clutch hit, stranding five men on base throughout the ballgame.

Gary stole a season-high five bases Thursday, but the bats couldn't drive them in.

Cummins fell to 3-3 on the season after losing his second straight decision. He is now 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA vs. Fargo (11-29) this year.

The 'Cats hit the road Friday for a three-game series against the Central Division rival Kansas City T-Bones over the holiday weekend before hosting the Sioux City Explorers and Sioux Falls Canaries for an eight-game homestand next week.
