Snappers Host Third Annual Hot Stove Banquet

The Beloit Professional Baseball Association, Inc. will begin its 26th season of baseball by hosting their third annual Winter Hot Stove Banquet, Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Country Club of Beloit. The banquet will feature Minnesota Twins Hitting Coach Joe Vavra, Twins prospect Erik Lis and a yet to be named member of the Minnesota Twins Front Office. Appearances are subject to change.

Vavra, a Wisconsin native, graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1978. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 8th round of the 1982 draft. Vavra played for eight seasons in the minors, with a career .262 average. Following his playing career, Vavra spent nine seasons as a field manager in Dodgers farm system. He compiled a 377-347 record in that time. Vavra is a 1985 graduate of the University of Wisconisn-Stout. He returned to his alma mater as head baseball coach in 2001. Vavra served as the Twins' Minor League Field Coordinator from 2002-2005 before being named their hitting coach. Last season he worked with American League MVP Justin Morneau and American League Batting Champion Joe Mauer.

In addition to the guest speakers, there will be a silent auction with proceeds going to benefit the Pohlman Field Improvement Fund. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to purchase Snappers season tickets as well as select Snappers merchandise.

Tickets for the Winter Hot Stove Banquet are $17 for adults and $13 for children. The ticket includes a sit down dinner, with dessert, catered by the Country Club of Beloit and a general admission ticket voucher good for the 2007 Snappers regular season.

The Country Club of Beloit is located at 2327 S. Riverside Drive in Beloit, Wisconsin. The doors will open at 5:45 PM for the silent auction, autograph period and social time. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM with the program immediately following and concluding by 8:30 PM.

Space is limited and the banquet has completely sold out the past two seasons, so tickets must be purchased in advance, by calling the Snappers Administrative Offices at (608) 362-2272 or by stopping by the office located at Pohlman Field, 2301 Skyline Drive in Beloit. The Snappers accept cash, checks, Mastercard or Visa.

The Snappers will open up their 26th season at home on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 6:30pm. Beloit will take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels, class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Individual game tickets will go on sale in March 1, 2007 while season tickets are currently available for purchase.
