
Hernandez Jersey Auction is Open

Burlington, IA (January 17, 2007) "" The fourth in the series of Burlington Bees on-line auctions featuring the autographed game-worn jersey of Runelvys Hernandez from the 2001 season is now open at milb.com. Fans can place bids for this one-of-a-kind piece of Bees history by going to the "Auction" page at www.milb.com or by following the links on the front page of the Bees website at www.gobees.com. Bidding will close at noon ET on Monday, January 22nd.
Hernandez made his pro debut in the United States with the Bees in 2001. In 17 starts, he was 7-5 with a 3.40 ERA and a career-high 100 K's in 100.2 IP for the Bees. After just 17 more Minor League appearances between Wilmington and Wichita in 2002, Hernandez made his Major League debut wit the Kansas City Royals on July 15, 2002. He was pitched in four of the last five seasons in Kansas City, missing 2004 to Tommy John surgery. In December, the Royals released Hernandez to make room of the 40-man roster for Rule V selection Joakim Soria. He has since signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Boston Red Sox. Hernandez will be given the opportunity to earn a spot in the Red Sox bullpen for Opening Day. In 78 career starts in the Big Leagues, Hernandez is 25-33.
The auction series started in December. Chris Lubanski's autographed road jersey from 2004 was the first on the block. Bidding closed on December 11th with a winning bid of $300. The auction for Luke Hochevar's autographed BP top from this past season closed on December 23rd with a winning bid of $261.76. Mitch Maier's autographed game-worn road jersey from 2004 closed on January 12th with a winning bid of $211.76. The final auction will feature the autographed game-worn road jersey from Ambiorix Burgos in 2004. That auction will run from January 23rd "" 31st.
