February 2, 2009 - SPHL (SPHL)
Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths took one of their three games last week, but the win was an important one as the Snakes defeated Huntsville for the first time this season. Besides the overtime win against the Havoc, Columbus dropped two games by identical 5-3 scores at Fayetteville last Thursday and against Richmond at home on Saturday. This weekend features another three games in three nights stretch with home games Friday against Fayetteville and Saturday against Knoxville before the back end of the home-and-home with the Ice Bears on Sunday afternoon in Tennessee. All Cottonmouth games as well as all other SPHL matchups are broadcast live via B2 Networks with both a video and audio feed. There is a nominal fee associated with each game; details can be found at www.cottonmouths.com. In addition, away games are aired live in the Columbus area on WEAM 1580 AM "The Zone," with Mike Vee providing the play-by-play action.

UPCOMING GAMES AND PROMOTIONS
Friday, February 6 - Fayetteville at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs. FAY: 3-3-1)
The Cottonmouths host the Fayetteville FireAntz at home on Friday night. The Snakes will look to avenge a 5-3 loss to the Antz in Fayetteville last Thursday night. In the last game between the two teams in Columbus on January 3, the Snakes and FireAntz couldn't decide the outcome after 65 minutes of regulation and overtime and went to a shootout, with the Cottonmouths emerging victorious in a 4-3 final score. The Snakes will only face the FireAntz twice more in the regular season with both contests at home on February 12 and March 17.
Saturday, February 7 - Knoxville at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs. KNX: 4-6-0)
The Knoxville Ice Bears visit the Snake Pit on Saturday night for the final time in the regular season as the remaining games between the two squads are scheduled in the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. All four of the Snakes' victories against the Ice Bears this season have been at home. Three of the Columbus victories have been one-goal decisions with two of the games overtime wins.

UPCOMING GAMES AND PROMOTIONS (cont'd)
Sunday, February 8 - Columbus at Knoxville, 5:00 PM EST
The back end of the home-and-home between the Snakes and Ice Bears will be played Sunday afternoon with a 5 PM EST start in Knoxville. The Snakes are looking for their first win of the year in Tennessee as they have been outscored 19-6 so far this season on the road against the Ice Bears. That stat might be deceiving, however, as after losses by 6-2 and 7-1 margins against the Ice Bears in Knoxville in November, the last two games by the Snakes in Knoxville have been much closer, with a 2-1 defeat on January 2 and a 4-2 decision to the Ice Bears on January 18.

Friday, January 30 - Huntsville 3 at Columbus 4 (OT) (Attendance: 2,154)
The Cottonmouths defeated Huntsville for the first time this season on Friday night at the Snake Pit, taking the Havoc to overtime before a Tim Green goal 55 seconds into the extra session to give Columbus a 4-3 win. Sam Bowles, Michael George, and Dan Leslie notched the other goals for the Snakes as Columbus built a 3-0 lead in the second period before three unanswered Huntsville goals in regulation forced the overtime. The Snakes outshot Huntsville 39-25, with Ian Vigier collecting the win in goal for Columbus as he stopped 22 of 25 shots. Ross Cherry picked up the overtime loss as he turned away 35 of the 39 Columbus shots on goal he faced.
Saturday, January 31 - Richmond 5 at Columbus 3 (Attendance: 2,939)
Sam Bowles, Lorne Misita, and Mat Ponto all lit the lamp once each for the Snakes, but a flurry of three unanswered goals by Richmond, including an empty-netter in the game's closing seconds, gave the Renegades a 5-3 win on Saturday night in Columbus. Both teams finished 1 for 6 on the power play. The shots were nearly even with Columbus having the edge 40-39. Goaltender Mike Ronan, playing his first game in a Renegades sweater after being traded from his brother John's Huntsville Havoc squad, picked up his first win in net for Richmond, stopping 37 of 40 shots on goal. Chad Rycroft, in net for the Snakes as his likeness was featured on a bobblehead given away to fans on Saturday night, took the loss in net with 34 saves on 38 shots.
